Is there anything more lovely than Maine in the fall? The hardwood forests begin their spectacular display of color around the middle of September and reach a crescendo around mid-October. With blue skies and daytime highs in the high 60’s and low 70’s, sightseeing and outdoor activities are simply sublime. Unfortunately, you should expect to pay top dollar for lodging, as all of New England draws hoards of tourists for its fall foliage display. Most people travel to Maine in the summer when daytime highs hover in the 80s, the humidity is tolerable, and daylight lasts until 9pm. Spring offers the best hotel deals, but it's an unfortunate time to visit Maine with your pets--the weather is unpredictable and snowmelt and frequent rain turn everything to mud.
