Watkins Glen sits on the southern end of Seneca Lake, one of eleven lakes carved by retreating Ice Age glaciers. Spreading like claw marks across central New York, the lakes give the region its name - the Finger Lakes.

With a wide range of four-season outdoor recreation, quaint downtowns, and a plethora of excellent wineries and breweries, it's an exceptional pet friendly vacation destination. And Watkins Glen makes a wonderful basecamp for your adventures.

Best Time To Visit

Summer and fall are probably the best times to visit Watkins Glen. Summer temperatures rarely go above the low 80s. And evening temperatures often dip into the refreshing 60s. You'll probably want to avoid the town during the annual NASCAR road race in August, however.

Fall brings stunning color to the trees and daytime temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

Of course there's no bad time to visit. Just be aware that some hiking trails may close in the winter which sees heavy snow and ice. And spring can be muddy from the annual snow melt.
