Best Time To Visit
You will find it hard to choose the best time to visit Asheville. Spring brings mountain wildflowers and warming temperatures. Fall offers leaf peepers stunning views of the changing foliage. Both spring and fall offer comfortable temperatures (between the 50s and 70s F) for hiking the many pet friendly mountain trails.
You will find no shortage of pet friendly lodging in the spring and fall. But check campground websites carefully. Some are only open during the summer.
Even summer sees temperatures between the 60s (at night) and 80s thanks to the cool mountain breezes. But you will see slightly higher lodging rates in the summer.
Things Not To Miss
Make your first stop at the welcome center for the self-proclaimed Dog City USA. Besides getting treats and pickup bags, you can also get recommendations for the best places to take your pup.
In town, you will find some pet friendly shops (ask first) and plenty of dog welcoming restaurant patios. Besides the Asheville Urban Trail, you will find miles of shaded hiking trails nearby. The DuPont State Forest even offers lovely waterfall views.
Perhaps the most famous attraction in Asheville is the Biltmore Estate. While the mansion itself does not allow non-service dogs, the grounds are mostly pet friendly. The gardens are well worth a visit. And most of the estate’s restaurants and the winery offer pet friendly outdoor seating.
If you’re traveling with a partner, it’s not difficult to take turns viewing the mansion since there are plenty of places to relax with dogs outdoors.
