This historic plantation house was built in 1815 and was surrounded by 1,400 acres, of which 500 was used for farming. During the Civil War, the house was used to tend to the wounded and dying after the Battle of Franklin, which occurred less than a mile from the battlefield. After the battle, land was donated to be used as a cemetery for nearly 1,500 Rebel soldiers. The site now consists of 10 acres, and has been under constant renovation since it was acquired in the late 1990s. Included in the renovation have been the gardens, which are being restored to their 1847 splendor. Well behaved, leashed pets are welcome on the grounds, but not in the buildings.
