Best Time To Visit

If you love snow, Duluth is the city for you. Locals don’t stop having fun when it gets cold. They just bundle up. You’ll find great trails to snowshoe with your winter-loving husky.

But pet patios will be closed for the season. If you prefer urban hiking and meals at local cafes, you might want to wait until summer to visit.

The warm season is brief, lasting from June to early September. But it’s pleasant with temperatures in the 70s during the day and cool nights.

Spring is the muddy season. But with the snow melt come magnificent waterfalls. And fall brings a nip in the air that’s perfect for hiking without all the muddy trails and melting ice.

Things Not To Miss

If you visit at any time but the dead of winter, you’ll want to watch the big ships coming into the harbor. You’ll be amazed by the sight. And your pet will find no end of smells to keep them interested.

You’ll find no end of pet friendly trails. For a view of the city, enjoy the Lakewalk—nearly 8 miles of paved paths along Lake Superior.

Or get out of town to enjoy the Superior Hiking Trial. Thirty miles of this 300 mile system pass through Duluth.

Looking for live music or something to drink? You’ll find it at the Fitger’s Complex which has a brewery with outdoor seating and a pet supply store that allows your dog to pick out his own treat.
