In 1836, John Deere, a blacksmith recently relocated from Vermont, set up shop in this small town. Visitors to the site can see the home he built, and an archaeological exhibit that shows the site of the original blacksmith shop. Well behaved, leashed dogs are allowed throughout the grounds, but only dogs small enough to be carried are allowed in the buildings.
