This nature center is operated by the Thornton W. Burgess Society. Their mission is to carry on the conservation work of the author/naturalist who was born and grew up in Sandwich, MA and wrote over 170 books and 15,000 stories about Peter Rabbit and his friends. The center offers interpretive nature trails and a wild flower garden. Adjacent to Green Briar is the 57-acre Briar Patch Conservation area, with walking trails open to the public. Well behaved, leashed dogs are welcome on the grounds of the center and in the conservation area, but not in the buildings.
