Navajo National Monument protects three of the largest and best-preserved cliff dwellings of the Ancestors of the Puebloan People. The Ancestral Puebloan people farmed the canyons, enabling them to flourish in this high desert environment. They hunted wild game and grew corn, beans, and squash. Leashed pets are allowed in developed areas, such as picnic areas, parking lots, and along gravel and paved roads. Pets are not allowed in the buildings or on trails. Leashes must be no longer than six feet.
